On 24th September 2024, the Kenya Tourism Board (KTB), in collaboration with the County Government of Kisumu and the Lake Victoria Tourism Association (LVTA), launched a transformative sustainability initiative dubbed “One Tourist, One Tree.” The campaign aims to promote responsible tourism by encouraging both visitors and industry stakeholders to actively participate in tree-planting as a way of contributing to environmental conservation.

The launch took place at Kajulu Hills Forest in Kisumu County as part of the Kenya Tourism Week 2024 celebrations. The initiative underscores Kenya’s commitment to sustainable tourism practices while simultaneously enhancing the natural beauty and ecological health of tourist destinations.
The event was graced by several high-profile dignitaries, including:
-
PS John Ololtua – State Department for Tourism
-
Ms. June Chepkemei – CEO, Kenya Tourism Board
-
Mr. Charles Kataro – CEO, Lake Victoria Tourism Association
This landmark event not only reinforced the value of green tourism but also strengthened partnerships between national and local tourism stakeholders in promoting environmental stewardship.
LVTA is proud to be part of this important movement and remains committed to championing eco-friendly tourism across the Lake Victoria region.
